Katana Den Owari, Shodai Hoki No Kami Nobutaka
with NTHK NPO Certificate

Excellent solid mumei katana attributed to the 1st generation Hoki no Kami Nobutaka from Owari.  The  nagasa is 2 shaku 3 sun 8 bu kore ari / Blade length ~ 72.1 cm shinogi zukuri with  iori mune hada is  itame the hamon  medium width
gunome midare that is mixed with yahazu elements,the  boshi is sugu-cho with a ko-maru-kaeri Tang has 1
mekugiana, yasurime kiri. 

Made circa  Keicho era   1596-1615. Mounted in a nice koshirae  iron jakushi style tsuba  fuchi kashira are shakudo with gold horses menuki are of cranes in flight, black lacquered saya.

The first generation Nobutaka whose original name was Komura Saemon.  He was the founder of the Nobutaka school which prospered for 10 generations, he originally belonged to Sanami  school and was a son of Kanetaka . He was born in  1561 in Kamiuchi, located in  Mino province. Nobutaka and Ujifusa made swords for the Kawamura  clan. He later
changed his smith name from Kanetaka to Nobutaka.  The character Nobu officially was granted to him by by Oda
Nobunaga .
After the death of Oda Nobunaga, Nobutaka had worked for the lords of Kiyosu castle then he again moved to Kaji present day Nagoya castle area in the 15th year of Keicho 1610.  The  Nobutaka school of swordmakers continued  make swords for  Tokugawa clan  until end of the  Edo period. Nobutaka is a very highly ranked swordmaker and his blades a reknowned for their sharpness and cutting ability.  He is ranked 80 in Hawleys, 6 million yen in the Toko Taikan, And Jo Saku by Fujishiro.
