Naginata Mumei Bishu Nidai Nobutaka with Koshirae and Shirasaya with NTHK NPO Certificate

Large well-made Naginata attributed to Den Bishu Nidai Hoki no Kami Nobutaka.  The second generation Hoki no Kami Nobutaka from Owari province.  Naginata - zukuri with iori  mune forged in a dense Itame hada. Hamon is sugu - cho mixed with gunome - midare with many ashi.  The Boshi is Ko Maru Kaeri  on both sides of the blade are Naginata hi with Soebi.  Nakago is Osuriage.  Made around Genna Era 1615-1624.  Nagasa is 53.9CM  

NOBUTAKA, 2nd gen., KanŽei (1624-1644) Signed Owari – “Hoki no Kami Fujiwara Nobutaka” , “Zen Hakushu Sangetsu Nobutaka koji”, “Nobutaka, Buddhist lay name Sangetsu, formerly Hoki”, “Hoki ni Kami Fujiwara Nobutaka KanŽyu Nyudo” , “Zen Hakushu Nobutaka Nyudo”. 

His real name was Kawamura Hoki.  He was son of the 1st gen. Nobutaka, he was born in the eighth year of Keicho ( 1603) and succeeded as head of the family in the tenth year of KanŽei (1633) when he also received the honorary title Hoki no Kami.  He retired in Kanbun two ( 1662) under the nyudo-go Sangetsu-KanŽyu, he died in the ninth month of Genroku two ( 1689) at the age of 87.  His chu-suguha, notare, or gunome is similar to that of the 1st gen. and his hamon are mostly nie-laden and show a wide nioiguchi.  He also hardened a flamboyant gunome-choji-midare in ko-nie-deki with a conspicuous amount of choji.  We know date signatures from the 20th year of KanŽei (1643) to the second year of Jokyo ( 1685), the roundish kurijiri of the Nobutaka lineage becomes a ha-agari kurijiri from the 2nd gen. onwards, ranked as Jo-saku
