Shin Gunto (Miltary) mounted sword with silver mon and tassle, very nice condition blade unsigned that was appraised by visting swordsmith Yamada to be made by KaneTsune in Mino province???, it was a Tensho and around 450 years old. 1573-1592 period blade. This sword was brought back from the war by Gordon Fenwick Japanese officer after one of the last great battles of Meaktila, Burma. This was the last big battle in WW2. Gordon Fenwick was a captain in the Gordon Highlanders and this sword comes with a copy of his military service history as the current owner met him personally. This comes with exceptional provenance handwritten by Gordon Fenwick stating how he obtained this sword from a dead officer as per above.
Excellent condition and fittings are superb – one would only find fittings as good as these in 1 out of 50 swords of this type and age. The mon is in good condition.
