Sayagaki Translation

津⾂廣⼭吉永
慶應元年紀有之同⼯伊賀國⽻⼭郡出⾝ノ藤堂藩⼯也師ハ⽉⼭貞吉⽽
其故ニ本作ハ師貞吉ニ髣髴タル者有之候蓋シ此⼯ノ代表作ノ壹⼝ナラン
刃⻑貮尺三⼨⼋分余有之
癸未暦葉⽉下浣
探⼭觀併誌了「花押」
Tsu-shin Hiroyama Yoshinaga
Keiō gannen-ki kore ari. Dōkō Iga no Kuni Hayama-gun shusshin no Tōdō hankō nari. Shi wa Gassan
Sadayoshi shikamo soreyue ni honsaku wa shi Sadayoshi ni hōfutsu-taru mono kore ari sōrō. Kedashi kono
kō no daihyōsaku no hitokuchi naran.
Hachō ni-shaku san-sun hachi-bu yo kore ari
Mizunoto-hitsujidoshi hazuki kakan
Tanzan mite narabi ni shiryōshite + kaō
Tsu Retainer Hiroyama Yoshinaga
[This blade] is dated with the first year of Keiō (1865). Yoshinaga was a smith of the Tōdō/Tsu fief
who came from the Hayama district of Iga province. His master was Gassan Sadayoshi and thus
the workmanship of this blade resembles that of the latter, which can be regarded as one of the
smith’s most representative masterpieces.
Blade length ~ 72.1 cm
Examined and written by Tanzan [Tanobe Michihiro] in the last third of August in the year of the
sheep of this era (2003) + monogram

 

YOSHINAGA (吉永), Keiō (慶応, 1865-1868), Ise – “Ise no Kuni-jū Yoshinaga” (伊勢国住吉永), “Hiroyama
Yoshinaga kore o tsukuru” (広山吉永造之), “Tsu-shin Hiroyama Mozaemon Yoshinaga kore o tsukuru”
(津臣広山茂左衛門吉永造之), “Ishū-jū Fujiwara Yoshinaga saku” (伊州住藤原吉永作), “Iga no Kuni-jūnin Fujiwara
Kagemune” (伊賀国住人藤原景宗), real name Hiroyama Mozaemon (広山茂左衛門), he signed in early years and
during his stay in Iga with the name Kagemune (景宗), later he studied under Gassan Sadayoshi (月山貞吉) and worked
for Ise´s Tsu fief (津藩) which was ruled by the Tōdō family (藤堂), he died on the 30th day of the third month Meiji 18
(明治, 1885) at the age of 63

According to the result of the shinsa committee of our society, we judge this work as authentic
and rank it as Hozon Tōken.
